Per Mike Puma of the New York Post, Mets ace and presumptive 2018 NL Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom is projected to earn $12.9 million in 2019 by MLB Trade Rumors. He more than earned his $7.4 million salary in 2018.

The 30-year-old had one of the greatest seasons ever for a starting pitcher, despite a 10-9 record. Across 32 starts, deGrom pitched 217 innings, striking out 269 batters as compared to walking only 46. His 1.70 ERA, 1.99 FIP, and 0.4 HR/9 marks all led the Major Leagues. His season was good for a 9.6 bWAR and 8.8 fWAR.

Only once this season did deGrom allow four runs in a game. He recorded 29 straight starts allowing three runs or fewer, and 24 straight quality starts — Both MLB single-season records. Jake Arrieta also recorded 29 straight starts allowing three runs for fewer, but that was over the course of two seasons. A good start on Opening Day by Jake and he will own that record as well.

New Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen has expressed a desire to extend deGrom, but with two more years of arbitration, that is not as pressing an issue as others at this time. With deGrom due to be a free agent after the 2020 season, there is plenty of time to discuss an extension.
