J.D. Davis talked to reporters on Friday afternoon on a variety of different topics as the Mets get ready for exhibition games this weekend.

Davis says that he has been in left field for most of the Mets practices and scrimmages, though he has taken some reps at third as well. The 27-year-old also noted that Yoenis Cespedes has been working with him in left field on positioning and helping him learn the position in general.

The known jokester laughed during the call as he talked about potentially buying some of the cardboard cutouts at Citi Field to show embarrassing photos of teammates.

Davis broke out with the bat for the Mets in 2019, the right-handed hitter slashed .307/.369/527 with 22 doubles, 22 home runs, and 57 RBIs in 140 games. The former third round pick was acquired from the Astros in a deal that sent three prospects to Houston.

The California native played 79 games in left for the Mets last season and 31 at third. In the minor leagues he was mostly a third baseman, with 423 of his 507 games coming at the hot corner.

Defensive metric were not kind to Davis no matter where he played in 2019, he had -11 defensive runs saved and -4.7 UZR in left field and -9 defensive runs saved and -1.6 at third base.

The Mets do have the benefit of the designated hitter in 2020, which could help get guys like Cespedes, Davis, and Dominic Smith at-bats and stay fresh.
