Everytime I go away for a few days it seems that’s when the Mets make some moves or something big happens in baseball. Wow… What an interesting 72 hours…

First of all, I was very happy to see that the Mets finally addressed the catching situation and re-signed Ramon Castro, and went ahead and signed Yorvit Torrealba. I’ll miss Lo Duca as he was one of my favorite Mets, but the Mets really needed to get younger. If the Mets had to keep one or the other between Moises Alou and Paul Lo Duca, I would have kept Alou. So being that’s exactly what Minaya did, I applaud him. Would I have liked to have gotten somebody better than Torrealba? Sure, of course, but there was nothing available in the free agent pool and trading for a catcher would have deprived the team of bargaining chips that we will need for pitching later on.

I have a strong feeling that Minaya will get something done with Luis Castillo. I know he’s already fielding offers from at least two other teams, but in the end I think he will be a Met in 2008. Because the Mets may not be as strong as they were at the bottom of the order in 2008, the Mets must stay strong at the top of the order, and I’m sure Omar realizes this.  That’s why I feel bringing Castillo back is a no-brainer, of course their are some other good options as well like Orlando Hudson for one, but I don’t see Omar filling this position with a trade.

Of course I am going to weigh in on the whole Bonds fiasco as well as that other insignificant news from the Bronx, but I’ll leave that until the morning.

Incidentally, before I go, I just wanted to throw this out there for anyone who may be interested. Mets Merized Online is looking to add a couple of new bloggers.
