It looks like the Mets have more interest in Livan Hernandez than they’ve been letting on. Livan is Orlando Hernandez’s hefty half brother.

Both Rotoworld and Mark Hale of the Post are reporting some serious interest in the very mediocre innings eater.

Livan Hernandez’s agent, Greg Genske, said the Mets are among the teams who have shown interest in the free-agent right-hander. Hernandez, who is Orlando Hernandez’s half-brother, went 11-11 with a 4.93 ERA this past year with the Diamondbacks. It was the 32-year-old’s highest ERA since 2001. Hernandez has pitched at least 200 innings in eight straight seasons.

Why in the world is Omar even looking at this guy? As much as I hate the thought of having Glavine back on this team, I’d much rather have him back than Livan. I can’t understand why we would consider giving this now out of shape, .500 pitcher, who has logged over a thousand innings in the last 5 years, the 3-year commitment he is looking for? Why?

This is the upgraded starting rotation Omar promised us?

Come on, Omar, you could do better than that. Forget Livan, and move on…
