The Cleveland Indians made their second splash of the trade deadline this morning, acquiring star reliever Andrew Miller from the Yankees ESPN’s Buster Olney reports.
In exchange for Miller, the Yankees will receive four prospects from Cleveland, including highly touted outfielder Clint Frazier and pitcher Justus Sheffield. The Yankees also added minor league right handers Ben Heller and J.P. Feyereisen to the deal. Frazier, 21, is the clear prize of the group, recently earning a promotion to Triple A after tearing up Double A with a .276/.356/.469 slash line in addition to 13 home runs and 13 stolen bases over 391 plate appearances.
The steep price Cleveland paid is justified, as calling Andrew Miller dominant this season would almost be an understatement. In 44 games, the tall lefty has logged a 1.39 ERA, .772 WHIP and an eye popping 15.3 strikeouts per nine innings.
Miller is also under team control for another three seasons, and the Indians will be on the hook for all $21 million owed to him.
