I wrote extensively on promoting F-Mart last week, but now with news that Ryan Church could go on the DL, it’s worth revisiting.

Adam Rubin of the Daily News writes,

Ryan Church will be examined by team doctors in New York on Monday, and hopes to get a definitive idea of what’s ailing him and whether he will need to go to the disabled list.

Church has yet to receive an MRI of his troublesome right hamstring, and wants to get the image taken so he can learn if he has a tear. Church’s hamstring problems had caused his hip and back to get out of whack, but that’s been corrected with chiropractic work, so the focus is back on the hamstring muscle. Church doesn’t know if realigning his body has just put stress on the hamstring or there’s something more wrong.

A DL stint, if it occurs, is the type of scenario that could result in top prospect Fernando Martinez being promoted from Triple-A Buffalo.

We’ve been calling for F-Mart’s promotion for a long time here at Mets Merized Online, and I think we are closer now than ever before. As I wrote on May 19th, the timing is right, and since first starting the chants to promote F-Mart weeks ago, what many called a ridiculous idea is now quickly gaining steam in Mets circles.

Fernando Martinez is currently enjoying a spectacular streak that has him batting .350 in May with 6 homeruns, 18 RBI’s and 16 runs scored. His OPS during the streak is 1.115.

For the season F-Mart is batting .296 with solid splits (.303 vs LHP, .289 vs RHP), and he leads the league in doubles and total bases. His OPS is now .894 with a .551 slugging percentage.

If the Mets do decide to call up F-Mart, he would most likely start in leftfield and play everyday or at the very least exclusively against right handed pitchers.

I’m not sure where Manuel would hit him in the lineup, but my guess would be that we could see him batting second or somewhere between the fifth and seventh spots. I’m hoping that they stick him at fifth, right behind Wright if only to see if we can catch lightning in a bottle.

We just gotta give F-Mart a shot if Church goes on the DL, we just gotta…
