The Mets (3-1) secured another spring win Tuesday afternoon against the Miami Marlins (1-2) at Clover Park. Adrian Houser started the game, making his first appearance in a Mets uniform, and pitched two clean innings. The offense notched eight hits on the afternoon, with an explosive four-run seventh inning.

In his Mets debut, Hauser tossed two scoreless innings. He faced six batters, inducing five ground balls and recording a strikeout.

Following his outing, Hauser said of his off-season work: “I worked heavily on mobility. I got with a guy back home named Dr. Peterson. He really helped me out with doing a bunch of mobility work, opened up my hips, ankles, and just overall body. I was able to get flexibility and work on strength. Hopefully that’s what I needed to do to stay healthy all season – that is the main goal.”

Former Marlin Jorge López took the mound in the third tossed one inning. He gave up a solo home run to Tristan Gray on his first pitch—for the only Fish run scored on the afternoon—and got through the rest of the frame, recording a strikeout and a walk.

Michael Tonkin, Yacksel Rios, and Nate Lavender each tossed a scoreless inning in relief. Dedniel Nunez threw one and 2/3 innings with two hits allowed and three strikeouts. Daniel Juarez closed out the game, adding a strikeout in his one and 1/3 innings pitched.

At the plate, New York notched eight hits on the afternoon. Tyrone Taylor got the Mets on the board in the third with an RBI single to tie up the game, 1-1. The club added a run each in the fifth and sixth inning, and broke the game open with a four-run seventh to take a final 7-1 lead. In an overall team effort, eight different Met batters recorded a hit in the win.

POSITIVE PROSPECT PERFORMANCES

New York got solid contributions from several prospects Tuesday afternoon, but Drew Gilbert headlined the afternoon. The outfielder, who could make an impact at the Major League level as soon as this year, went 1-for-1 at the plate and had his first hit and RBIs (tw0) of spring training.

  • Luisangel Acuña got a hit and walked, adding to his early contributions to the spring season.
  • Nate Lavender retired three more batters and has struck out four of the six batters he’s faced in spring.
  • JT Schwartz got his first hit of the spring, a single in the seventh.
  • Alex Ramirez had an RBI double to the opposite field in the fifth inning, giving the Mets a 2-1 lead.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Drew Gilbert

A promising prospect that the Mets acquired for Justin Verlander, Gilbert drove in two of the Mets’ seven runs scored against the Fish.
