Melky+Cabrera

The Chicago White Sox have signed free agent outfielder Melky Cabrera according to Bruce Levine of 670 The Score. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the contract is worth $42 million over three years.

Cabrera batted .301 this season with 16 home runs and 73 RBI in 139 games. During the last four years, he has a .309  average with a .809 OPS. Cabrera is the latest big acquisition for the White Sox in what has been an extremely active offseason. They have also acquired Adam LaRoche, David Robertson and Jeff Samardzija.

Some believed Cabrera would have been a nice option for the Mets, but New York never showed any interest in the free agent outfielder.

Seattle Mariners v Houston Astros

Another shortstop target for the Mets appears to be off the table. A team official for the Seattle Mariners says that they are not looking to trade Brad Miller according to Bob Dutton of the News Tribune.

“We’re not looking to trade him,” the official says. “I’m not saying it won’t happen, but it’s a lot less likely than some people seem to think.”

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York wrote last week that the Mets were in trade talks for Miller. The 24 year old shortstop batted .221 this season, but he was formerly viewed as a solid prospect.  He posted a .920 OPS and a .319 average at AA and AAA in 2013. He was also rated as the 9th best prospect in Mariners system during that season.
