According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, the Mets are expected to start extension talks with superstar shortstop Francisco Lindor.

Lindor has previously said numerous times that he doesn’t want to talk extension during the season, meaning the Mets have less than a month to get this wrapped up with Opening Day coming on April 1 vs the Nationals.

The Mets acquired Lindor and starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco from Cleveland back in January in exchange for Amed Rosario, Andres Gimenez, Josh Wolf, and Isaiah Greene.

Lindor, still only 27, would be a free agent after this 2021 season if the Mets are unable to agree on an extension. During his six -year career with Cleveland, Lindor is a .285/.346/.488 hitter with two Silver Sluggers, two Gold Gloves, and four All-Star appearances.

The switch-hitter has accumulated 28.7 bWAR over six seasons with Cleveland, and his career-best came in 2018 when he put up 7.8 bWAR.

Lindor has already shown his value off the field as well, with Mets manager Luis Rojas praising his leadership and willingness to help his teammates improve.
