Matt Harvey had another great outing, but the offense and bullpen couldn’t hold it together in the 5-2 loss to the Rockies

Matt Harvey put on six strong innings, allowing three hits and one run, walking two and striking out nine. Harvey has been a revelation in terms of durability and ability mto strike out hitters, minus one outing and has proven a valuable commodity to the 2013 Mets. The only run he allowed was scored on a sac-fly, and Harvey has done nothing short of prove his space on the 2013 team as the #4 starter behind Dikcey, Santana and Niese.

The bullpen, did not get such glowing reviews. The combined to allow four runs, two a piece coming from Ramon Ramirez and Frank Francisco withRob Carson and Josh Edgin coming in for one and one-third clean innings of work. The bullpen continues to be the biggest issue. If a starter can pitch six one-run innings, holding it should not be the utmost concern.

From the offensive side of the ball, the Mets didn’t thrive but a sac-fly in the first drove in one run, and an Ike Davis single in the eighth drove in another. David Wright was intentionally walked twice by the starter, and the Rockies had no reservations not facing the best hitter in the Mets lineup. If the offense cannot put across hits, less infact runs without the contributions of David Wright the last portion of the season will be horrible

Notes

Justin Turner came out for a pinch-hitting appearance, and drew a key walk in the ninth. Turner keeps proving value with his pitch selection, and the ability to possibly grab an OF glove for 2013 provides him with a chance at a roster spot

Frank Francisco. He. Has. Been. Bad. What else can be said? Allowing runs, solid contact. He has proven himself to be much lower in the totem pole than we all imagined

Kelly Shoppach made a throwing error on a play that it seemed like he didn’t want to throw, but did anyway. Shoppach won’t hit for a high BA, but power potential and some defense will ensure he is considered for 2013

On Deck

The Mets will finish the series tomorrow, sending Colin McHugh to the mound in the place of Johan Santana who was recently Dl’d with back issues against Tyler Chatwood. Game time is 1:10 P.M.
