Happy Birthday to Number 41, George Thomas Seaver!

Tom Seaver celebrates his 65th birthday today, and I wanted to thank him for all the amazin’ memories he has given Mets fans in the last five decades. Even today, when Tom graces us with an appearance in the broadcast booth or in an on the field celebration, he still charms us with the same style, charisma and class he had when he was one of the most intimidating and dominating pitchers of his era.

His many baseball accomplishments and team records are too many to list here, but most notably he won 311 games, had 3,640 strikeouts and a 2.86 earned run average that spanned a brilliant 20-year career. In 1992, he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the highest percentage ever (98.8%), and currently has the only plaque at Cooperstown wearing a New York Mets uniform.

Please enjoy this beautiful graphic we created for Tom Seaver last season as part of a collection for the 40th anniversary of the 1969 Mets. By the way, when we released this graphic it quickly became the most downloaded and linked to graphic we ever made.

There are certain dates in our nation’s history when Americans remember exactly where they were and what they were doing. One day that stands out for Mets fans is June 15, 1977. That is a day in our history which will live in infamy. Tom Seaver, the face of the franchise, the heart and soul of the franchise, The Franchise, was traded away–no, was discarded–by the team he loved. No player in the history of the Mets had single-handedly left such a void upon his departure.  [Read More]

Finally, here is some rare footage of Tom Seaver being interviewed by broadcast legend, Mike Douglas. Also appearing in the video is Han Solo and Pete Rose who makes an interesting comment about fundamental errors. Enjoy…
