Did you get to hear Gary Sheffield post game comments last night? Here they are thanks to Brian Lewis of the NY Post.
“When a team comes back on you, you have to answer the bell to come back on them. And even if they come back you have to keep fighting until the last pitch. We’ll get better at that. We have to get better at that,” Sheffield said after a 7-4 loss to the Marlins. Pitchers bear down a little more late in games. That’s when you have to be more patient. You have to tip your cap; after giving up the early runs, he shut us down. When you get runs early, that’s when you have to be really patient . . . and pick your pitch that you want to swing at.”
Sheffield sounding more like a hitting instructor than a guy who’s batting .170. Let me just add that he has been robbed of at least a half dozen hits in the past week and half. He does make an interesting point though and hits the problem square on the head.
By the way, Sheffield’s two run triple in the first inning moved him up to 25th all time in RBI’s with 1,637. He passed Hall of Famer Ernie Banks.
