The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins by a score of 8-2 on Friday night in at Marlins Park.

Pitching

Corey Oswalt issued a leadoff walk to Derek Dietrich, but was helped out by a 5-4-3 double play in a scoreless bottom of the first.

Justin Bour led off the second with a bloop single, but Oswalt was able to easily work his way out of the inning again.

The Marlins jumped all over Oswalt in the third. Leading off, Lewis Brinson crushed a first pitch fastball to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead. After a Dietrich walk and a Brian Anderson single, JT Realmuto singled home a run to make it 2-0.

Starlin Castro then lined an RBI single of his own to increase the lead to 3-0. J.T. Riddle put the icing on the cake by crushing a three run home run to make it 6-0 and end Oswalt’s night.

Chris Beck closed out the third, retiring the only better he faced. Tyler Bashlor worked around a leadoff single in a scoreless bottom of the fourth, he then struck out a pair in the bottom of the fifth.

The Marlins added a run in the sixth off of Bashlor after Brinson scored on a Cameron Maybin RBI single, making it 7-1.

Jerry Blevins retired the only batter he faced in the bottom of the sixth. Blevins retired the Marlins in order in the seventh.

Drew Smith allowed a pair of singles to Castro and Riddle, and then a Rojas sacrifice fly to make it 8-2 Miami in the eighth.

Hitting

Todd Frazier lined a single and Amed Rosario drew a two out walk in the second, but Frazier was picked off second to end the inning.

Jose Bautista doubled down the left field line with two outs in the third, but Asdrubal Cabrera grounded out to strand him there.

Wilmer Flores drew a one out walk, he came around to score the Mets first run of the game on a Devin Mesoraco two out double to make it 6-1 in the fourth.

Flores lined a one out single in the sixth, however he was stranded there as Frazier popped out and Mesoraco flew out.

The Mets loaded the bases in the eighth after Bautista and Cabrera singled and Michael Conforto drew a walk. Flores brought a run home to make it 7-2, but rolled into a double play ball.

Amed Rosario drew his third walk of the game leading off the ninth, a batter later Brandon Nimmo blooped a single the other way.

Bautista led the Mets offensively with two hits and a walk.

Jacob DeGrom takes the mound against Pablo Lopez Saturday afternoon at 4:10 p.m. as the Mets look to take the middle game of this three game set at Marlins Park.
