The New York Mets (48-55) slugged their way to a victory with four home runs on Friday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates (46-57) with a final score of 6-3.

Pitching

It was a successful return for  Zack Wheeler as he pitched 5.1 solid innings. He allowed three runs, struck out seven batters, walked none, and allowed six hits. This was Wheeler’s first start in 19 days coming back from the injured list dealing with shoulder fatigue.

Luis Avilan came into relieve for Zack in the sixth with a runner on base with one out, he got Bryan Reynolds to pop-up for the first out, then got infielder Colin Moran to ground-out to first base to end the inning.

Robert Gsellman pitched the top of the seventh inning, the only blemish in his outing was a lead-off walk to Jung Ho Kang, but other than that Gsellman was successful getting out of the inning.

Justin Wilson came into pitch the eighth inning. Adam Frazier doubled off Wilson to lead off the inning. The next batter Starling Marte popped up to the first baseman Pete Alonso, he dropped the ball to allow runners to stay put at first and second base.

Wilson did manage to get out of the inning by striking out Josh Bell, and then getting Bryan Reynolds to ground out for an inning-ending double play.

Edwin Diaz was not available tonight for the save opportunity after getting hit with a liner on the fit on Thursday.

So Mickey Callaway decided to give Seth Lugo the nod to secure the save. Lugo did secure his first save of the year with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Lugo now has 10.2 scoreless innings over his last 10 appearances.
