The New York Mets were defeated by the New York Yankees Saturday afternoon by a score of 10-3. The Mets offense faced former Mets farmhand Luis Cessa. He was the other piece of the Yoenis Cespedes deal in 2015 along with Michael Fulmer that was sent to the Detroit Tigers.

Pitching:

Matt Harvey struggled for the first time this Spring. He pitched 4.2 innings allowing six hits, five earned runs, a walk, striking out two, and gave up a laser of a home run to former Miami Marlin Giancarlo Stanton.

Rafael Montero struggled once again today giving up two earned runs over one inning pitched.

Then left-handed reliever Matt Purke came on in the fifth with a lefty-on-lefty situation with two runners in scoring position at second and third and gave up a double to Kyle Holder to make it a 7-2 Yankees lead.

Jamie Callahan gave up four hits, two earned runs, and only struck out one as his Spring Training woes continue.

Mets pitching has given up a total of 21 runs in the two exhibition games they’ve played against the Yankees this spring.

Offense:

The Mets offense struggled today at the plate overall. Amed Rosario was in the starting lineup for the first time since last week after dealing with a minor groin injury. He led off the game, and went 1-for-2 with a double.

In the top of the fourth, Travis d’Arnaud drove in a run on a ground out to second base that scored Jose Reyes for the Mets first run of the game. Reyes went 2-for-3 on the afternoon.

In the sixth inning, Reyes hit a line drive up the middle to drive in Wilmer Flores to cut the Mets deficit 5-2.

Phillip Evans drove in a run on an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning.

Tim Tebow went 0-for-2 with a walk at the DH spot.

On Deck:

Mets will be heading back to First Data Field in Port St. Lucie to face the Houston Astros tomorrow. Jacob deGrom will be making his first start of the Spring. Game time is at 1:10 p.m.
