The New York Mets (17-14) were defeated by the Colorado Rockies (19-15 ) tonight by a score of 2-0 at Citi Field. That loss marks the Mets fifth consecutive.

Pitching:

Tonight was definitely a positive start and one of Steven Matz’s best starts. Matz pitched six solid innings against the Rockies while striking out five batters. The only lone run given up was a solo home run to third baseman Nolan Arenado. Overall, this was a start that Matz absolutely needed to get him back on track.

Paul Sewald came in for the seventh inning and pitched a clean inning that included a strikeout.

Robert Gsellman was stellar when he entered in the eighth as he pitched a scoreless inning. However, in the nith Gsellman gave up an earned run on a base hit by David Dahl with bases loaded, and could have allowed two had Yoenis Cespedes not thrown out Noel Cuevas at the plate.

Hitting:

The Mets offense was not producing once again tonight as they were limited to six hits throughout the game. One of the bright spots to look at in the hitting department tonight was Asdrubal Cabrera’s continued hot start as he went 2-4.

The other bright spot would be that Jay Bruce also went 2-4 with a double.

One thing that certainly didn’t help the Mets cause tonight was that they were 0-4 with RISP.

On Deck:

The New York Mets will be playing the Colorado Rockies once again tomorrow for the finale of this three-game series at Citi Field.  Noah Syndergaard will be pitching for the Mets while the Rockies will counter with Kyle Freeland. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. and the game will be aired on SNY.
