The New York Mets were defeated by the Colorado Rockies by a score of 10-8 at Coors Field on Tuesday night.

Pitching

The Rockies rallied off four straight hits against Jason Vargas to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. After Charlie Blackmon singled and Nolan Arenado doubled, Trevor Story reached as Brandon Nimmo lost a ball in the clouds.

Ian Desmond then followed that up with a single the other way, scoring Arenado. Vargas was able to limit the damage, as he rolled a 3-6-3 double play to get out of the inning.

Vargas worked around a Chris Iannetta leadoff single and stranded a runner on second in a scoreless bottom of the second.

The Rockies hit back-to-back-to-back home runs off Vargas in the third. Arenado hit a two run bomb, followed by a solo shot by Story, and Desmond capped it off with a solo shot of his own to make it 6-2.

Vargas was pulled with one out in the third after hitting Ianetta with a pitch, he lasted just 2.1 innings and gave up seven runs on nine hits.

Hansel Robles didn’t fare much better in relief, as he allowed an RBI double to Noel Cuevas and then an RBI single to the opposing pitcher German Marquez to make it 8-2.

After walking both Lemahieu and Blackmon to load the bases, Robles battled back to strike out Arenado and was able to get Story to ground out and strand the bases loaded.

Robles allowed a solo home run to Carlos Gonzalez with one out in the fourth to make it 9-2 Colorado.

Chris Beck allowed a leadoff single to Marquez and walked Blackmon before Arenado increased the Rockie lead to 10-4 with an RBI single.

Beck issued a leadoff walk to Gonzalez, but was helped out by a runners interference double play in a scoreless sixth inning.

Tim Peterson retired all six batters he faced, as he tossed two perfect innings and struck out three in his return to the big leagues.

Brandon Nimmo and Asdrubal Cabrera led off the game with back-to-back singles. After both runners advanced on a Michael Conforto fly out, Todd Frazier drove home Nimmo with a sacrifice fly to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.

The Mets fought right back to tie the game at 2 in the second. Wilmer Flores led off the inning with a double to right center, he then scored on a Kevin Plawecki RBI single.

After Luis Guillorme and Nimmo drew walks in the fifth, Cabrera singled through the shift to bring home Guillorme and make it 9-3. Nimmo then scored on a Conforto sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 9-4.

Conforto struck out on three pitches, but Bautista scored on a passed ball to make it 10-6. However, Frazier grounded out to strand two in scoring position.

Jose Reyes led off the top of the ninth with a walk, Rosario then reached on an Arenado error to put runners on second and third. Reyes came in to scored on a Nimmo groundout, then Rosario scored on another ground, this time by Cabrera,  to make it 10-8.
