The New York Mets announced that relief pitcher AJ Ramos will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

Ramos, 31, last pitched on May 26th against the Brewers when he gave up three runs and a home run in two thirds of an inning. He will almost definitely miss the remainder of the season.

The Mets acquired Ramos from Miami last summer and he will make $9,225,000 this season, becoming a free agent in November. It’s unclear if the Mets took out any kind of insurance policy on him like they did for David Wright, meaning we don’t know how much of his contract the Mets will get back.

Ramos pitched 19.2 innings across 28 appearances with a 6.41 ERA, 5.13 FIP, and 1.627 WHIP. He struck out 22 and walked 15.
