The New York Mets (3-5) won their third Grapefruit League contest as they came back late to defeat the Houston Astros (3-4) by a score of 2-1. (Box Score)

Pitching

The pitchers dominated in Saturday’s game, giving up just one run on six hits.

Steven Matz pitched a nearly perfect two innings in his second outing of the spring, giving up just a two-out triple to Taylor Jones in the second. He escaped any damage by striking out Jack Mayfield looking.

David Peterson replaced Matz, lasting two innings, giving up one run via a sacrifice fly, allowed three hits, and struck out three.

Franklyn Kilome bounced back from a rough outing previously, pitching one scoreless inning, giving up just one hit and striking out one.

Stephen Gonsalves would relieve Kilome, lasting one inning and walking two.

After Gonsalves came Peter Tagowho would also last an inning and walk two as well as allow one hit.

Saturday’s winning pitcher Jordan Humphreys pitched a perfect eighth inning with one strikeout, while Adonis Uceta would relieve him for the ninth, picking up the save and two strikeouts.

Offense

Like Friday, the Mets were lackluster on offense, only collecting two runs on six hits. Luckily for them, it was all they needed.

Brandon Nimmo led off the game with a double to left and stole a base. The team, however, was unable to drive him home after Michael Conforto struck out, Pete Alonso grounded into a force out, and Wilson Ramos grounded out to second.

Conforto did chip in offensively in the third, with an infield single and a stolen base. The team was once again unable to drive home a run though, stranding him at second.

In the fourth, Dominic Smith hit a single and stole a base, but the Mets were not able to drive him in.

To start the fifth, Andres Gimenez and Brandon Nimmo would draw consecutive walks, but the Mets were unable to drive them in after Conforto flew into a force out, Pete Alonso struck out, and Wilson Ramos flew out to right.

The inept offense would continue until the final inning, when Jake Hager would hit a double, driving in Will ToffeyMax Moroff would then chip in with his own double, driving in Hager. The Mets would hang on to win after Adonis Uceta closed it out in the bottom half of the inning.
