In today’s other split squad game, the Mets traveled to Jupiter and lost to the Miami Marlins by a score of 8-7.

Things were looking good early as top prospect Steven Matz got the start and looked great, tossing two hitless innings. The Long Island lefty allowed only one baserunner, leadoff batter Dee Gordon, who was hit by the first pitch of the game.

Rafael Montero followed Matz and got tagged for two runs on four hits and two walks in 1.1 innings, before he was pulled and replaced by Dillon Gee. It was the first taste of relief for Gee who escaped a jam in the 4th and then pitched two more scoreless innings.

Jack Leathersich, who is competing for a bullpen job, got toasted for five earned runs, walking three and letting up two hits while only retiring one batter.

On offense, Daniel Muno and Eric Campbell had a pair of hits each, but the big blow came from Brandon Allen who delivered a three-run homer, walked and scored two runs.
