According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Rangers have no interest in starting pitcher Dillon Gee despite the news that Yu Darvish is likely out for the rest of the season.

The buzz is the Rangers could turn to the Phillies and try to work out a trade for Cole Hamels.

Sources have told ESPN New York that the Mets are still willing to trade Gee or Bartolo Colon during spring training.

However earlier this week, GM Sandy Alderson said there were no active trade conversations with any teams for one of their starters.

Gee, who is the odd man out of the starting rotation, entered Saturday’s game as a reliever for the first time this spring and looked good, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings.

ESPN is now reporting that Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish is considering the possibility of undergoing Tommy John surgery after tests revealed he has a sprained ligament in his pitching elbow.

Darvish said he will seek other medical opinions before deciding whether to undergo the procedure that will essentially end his 2015 season and perhaps part of 2016 as well.

The Rangers confirmed that Darvish has a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and that they have discussed potential treatment options, including ligament reconstructive surgery.

“I will be disappointed if I have to miss this season, but I want to look at all the options, including getting a second opinion, before I make a final decision,” Darvish said in a statement released by the team. “In the meantime, my heart is with my teammates, and our focus remains on accomplishing our goals for the season.”

It’s a tough break for the Rangers and this may force them to seek an outside option to replace Darvish, a three-time All-Star, in their rotation.

It could give the Mets a potential opportunity to trade Dillon Gee or even Bartolo Colon or Jon Niese, depending on what the Rangers are looking to do.

It’s something to keep an eye on as I’m sure Sandy Alderson is as well. The Mets GM said on Thursday that a serious injury could open the door for a starting pitcher  trade.
