The New York Mets (58-58) defeated the San Diego Padres (50-66) by a score of 3-2 in extra-innings tonight at Citi Field.

Pitching:

Jacob deGrom toed the rubber for the Mets this evening, and demonstrated that he is truly the ace of the Mets staff, firing seven dominant innings, allowing just one run on three hits, while walking one and striking out nine.

Unfortunately for deGrom, one bad changeup would cost him the win in this ball game, as Yangervis Solarte took the right hander deep for a solo shot in the seventh inning.

The Mets regained the lead, but Jeurys Familia allowed the Padres to tie it up in the ninth on a Wil Myers home run.

The recently called up Gabriel Ynoa made his major league debut tonight, and pitched well, tossing a scoreless eleventh and actually got his first major league win because the Mets won the game in the bottom half of the frame!

Offense:

The Mets got on the board first in the first inning, due in part to Jose Reyes who was playing in his first game off the disabled list.

Reyes walked and advanced to third on a wild pitch and subsequent throwing error from Christian Bethancourt. Reyes would then score on a single from Neil Walker.

After the Padres tied the game in the seventh, the Mets answered back to take the lead right back on a sacrifice fly from Kelly Johnson.

Wilmer Flores played the hero tonight as he got the big knock in the bottom of the 11th to score Neil Walker as the Mets came away with a much needed win!

It was actually ruled a fielder’s choice, but Flores still collected three hits on the night while starting against a right-handed pitcher.

On deck:

Steven Matz (8-8, 3.60 ERA) takes on Clayton Richard (0-0, 6.75 ERA) tomorrow afternoon for the series finale. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM.
