The Mets have will replace John Maine with right-hander Fernando Nieve on Saturday at Yankee Stadium.

Nieve will be opposed by Andy Pettitte.

To replace Maine’s spot on the roster, the Mets promoted lefty Jon Switzer from Triple-A Buffalo.

Maine was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 7, with right-shoulder weakness. Maine says he expects to miss only one or two starts, but where have we heard that before?

I’m kind of surprised that Nelson Figueroa didn’t get the call instead of Nieve, but what the heck do I know.

Nieve, 26, has appeared in one game in relief for the Mets since being called up from Buffalo, pitching two scoreless innings against Washington on June 6. He was signed off waivers in spring training after he was released by the Astros.

Jon Switzer, was 0-2 with a 2.13 ERA with the Buffalo Bisons. He has some sporadic major league time with Tampa Bay, and has a 2-4 record with a 6.11 ERA in 68 relief appearances.
