Christian Scott turned in another excellent performance Wednesday at Triple-A Syracuse, striking out six in 3 2/3 innings as he hopes to force his way back into the big-league rotation. He gave up one run on five hits and a walk, throwing 46 strikes out of 60 pitches and was likely pulled to limit his innings.

Scott, 24, was 0-2 with a 3.90 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in five starts for the Mets, his last one coming on May 30, before he was sent down. He has tossed 61 2/3 innings combined for Syracuse and the Mets. His previous career high came last season when he pitched 87 2/3 innings across three levels.

Manager Carlos Mendoza has been vague about the rookie’s potential return to Queens.

“We’re still having conversations, but with all the off days we have coming up, we feel like a five-man rotation is what’s best for us moving forward,” Mendoza told reporters on Tuesday, before Scott’s latest outing. “He threw five innings the other day, he’s scheduled to pitch tomorrow again, and we’ll see him back.”

The Mets current rotation is Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, Jose Quintana, Tylor Megill and David Peterson.

There is some speculation that the Mets could be sellers at the trade deadline, which may open a spot in the rotation for Scott.
