Ervin Santana, Tuesday’s scheduled starter for the Syracuse Mets, was scratched from the game and did not pitch. At this time, it isn’t known if the move was related to an injury to Santana or perhaps an impending trade.

The intrigue is raised by the fact that Noah Syndergaard, whose name has been tossed around in rumors, is slated to pitch for the Mets tonight against the Chicago White Sox. As of now, that’s still the plan.

Zack Wheeler is also slated to pitch on Thursday for the Mets. Walker Lockett would be on schedule to pitch that day, but was optioned on July 26, so the Mets would have to place a player in the injured list for him to be eligible for a call-up. Corey Oswalt is currently on the Syracuse Mets injured list.

Santana, 36, was signed as a minor league free agent on May 24 after he elected free agency following an outright by the White Sox — for whom he made three starts in April. The 15-year veteran has made 11 starts with the Mets (three for St. Lucie, eight for Syracuse), pitching to a 4.20 ERA.

Santana, over 387 career major league games, is 149-127 with a 4.09 ERA. He was an All-Star with the Minnesota Twins in 2017.
