The Edwin Diaz redemption tour continues as the best closer in baseball has been named the NL Reliever of the Month for July. Diaz has been on a complete tear this season as he has solidified himself as the best closer in baseball and number two is nowhere near.

Diaz was named the NL Reliever of the Month for the second month in a row. Diaz is boasting a career best so far in 2022 with an era of 1.51. He has 23 saves on the season and is on pace to surpass his Mets high of 32 saves.

The Mets have waited four years to witness the brilliance of Edwin Diaz and it has been well worth the wait. Diaz made 11 appearances in July and allowed no runs while striking out 25 batters and collecting 7 saves. He only walked one batter in the entire month as well. It seems as if Edwin Diaz has tapped into his 2018 self to help the Mets in this pennant race.

June and July have been the best months that Diaz has had so far this season. In June he collected 5 saves in 10 appearances. He also struck out 21 batters and had a 0.93 ERA. After having a rough May where he ended the month with a 3.38 ERA in 11 appearances, Diaz has become the shut down closer that the Mets have needed to squeak by in close games.

Diaz will need to continue his dominance if the Mets are truly poised on making a run in October. After struggling in his first few years with the team, it seems as if Edwin has come into his own under Buck Showalter. Showalter has truly brought the best out of this Mets team which has stayed in first place in the NL East for the better part of the season so far.
