A few thoughts:
- Not all players here are considered top prospects, but most of them are. Some of these players simply needed the extra work as deemed by the Mets, or are being considered for a full season league and need to be evaluated.
- You can expect to see most of these players level up this season and usually to full season leagues except for those from Kingsport.
- STEP is usually an indicator for minor league players, which is why I separated them by their highest achieved teams.
- We’ll likely see Whalen, Bashlor, Flexen and Champ Stuart at Single-A Savannah this year. However, I’m not sure about Dominic Smith going southeast from Kingsport to Savannah as some believe. Instead, I believe he’ll go up north to Brooklyn with Amed Rosario.
- All of the players who played in Brooklyn and are in STEP should be in Savannah or even St. Lucie this year. None of the high school picks from the 2013 draft who debuted in Brooklyn are here so expect them to repeat and not level up.
Also, some of these players might be showcased in later innings in early spring training games, so watch out for them on SNY.
