jeurys familia

That’s what talking heads on SNY think. On Thursday, during an episode of Loudmouths Andy Martino of the Daily News suggested that the leash is getting shorter and shorter on Familia and that it’s time to start considering Tyler Clippard as the team’s closer.

Right after that Gary Apple of SNY asked Nelson Figueroa the question of whether Tyler Clippard should replace Familia. Figueroa said it was too early and that it’s gonna take more than four or five bad outings before the Mets even consider something like that simply because he’s been the teams MVP the majority of the season and the team wouldn’t be where it is without him.

Speaking with reporters after the game, Terry Collins said Familia will remain as the team’s closer.

“He’s still gonna be the closer,” Collins said. “But we’ll hopefully get his confidence back and get him out there a little more often and see what the results are.” (Kieran Darcy, ESPN NY)

Yesterday’s blown save was Familia’s third since the All-Star break and his fifth overall this season. He’s allowed six runs in 5.1 innings since the break and is 0-3 in save chances.

Meanwhile, Clippard has pitched two scoreless innings since joining the Mets. In 38.2 innings with Oakland, he maintained a solid 2.79 ERA with 17 saves.
