Mets manager Luis Rojas told reporters on Wednesday afternoon that J.D. Davis recently started swinging but had to stop after experiencing discomfort. Rojas said that Davis won’t begin a rehab assignment anytime soon.

Davis, suffering from an injury to his left middle finger, had started swinging again over the weekend in hopes of getting back on a rehab assignment.

The 28-year-old was originally put on the injured list on May 2 and then started a rehab assignment on May 18. He played in four rehab games for the Triple-A Syracuse Mets before being shutdown again. An MRI showed that Davis had inflammation in his joints.

Davis was hitting .390/.479/.610 in 14 games for the Mets before the injury.
