According to ESPN, Major League Baseball has issued an “edict” to the Mets and across baseball not to wear hats in-game honoring first responders, such as the FDNY and NYPD, Terry Collins said.
The Mets issued the following statement: “MLB set a league-wide policy as it related to caps and uniforms for September 11 and we followed the guidelines.”
When MLB pulled the same crap in 2001, the players (Piazza, Zeile, Ventura, etc.) defied Bud Selig and wore the FDNY and NYPD hats, essentially telling MLB to shove it.
