Jacob deGrom continued his domination over major league hitters on Wednesday night as the Metropolitans completed their sweep of the Miami Marlins by a score of 6-4.

DeGrom, 30, pitched seven scoreless innings while allowing three hits and walking one. He set a new career high in strikeouts by setting 14 Marlins down, helping to pick up his second win of the young season.

Jacob tossed 114 pitches on the night, 79 of which were for strikes. DeGrom was in complete control throughout his seven innings of work.

“That was probably the best I’ve felt in a long time,” deGrom said following his amazin’ performance. (Newsday)

DeGrom has now tossed 26 consecutive scoreless innings, allowed three runs or fewer in 31 consecutive starts and became the first pitcher in Mets history to start a season with back-to-back 10+ strikeout performances.

Wednesday’s start also marked the 26th consecutive quality start for deGrom, tying him with Bob Gibson for the longest streak in major league history.

Manager, Mickey Callaway spoke on the many feats Jake hit in Wednesday’s victory.

“[DeGrom] just does the same thing every time and you look up at the end and it’s something really impressive,” Callaway said. “He continues this historic run.” (NY Post)

As if all of those accomplishments were enough for Jake last night, he also flexed some muscle in the game, sending a monster home run into the center field stands in Miami. The moonshot was just the second home run of his career.

“I told [Brandon] Nimmo, ‘I am not taking the first pitch,’ deGrom said. “I was fortunate enough to be on time.”

The man can do it all.

Jacob, now with 141 career starts has allowed one or no runs in 66 of them and has 34 double-digit strikeout games.
