deGrom Jacob

Jacob deGrom improves to 6-4 on the season with a 2.41 ERA after another outstanding start during last night’s game.

He pitched 8 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits against the Padres. San Deigo’s lineup looked completely overmatched as deGrom brought his best stuff to the mound.

“This was probably the best game I have seen him pitch and I have seen him pitch some really, really good ones,” Terry Collins said, “but his command tonight, mixing and changing speeds, command really good.” (Kristie Ackert, Daily News)

It looked like deGrom’s outing could have been a historic one, but he ultimately lost his chance at a perfect game in the 6th inning after allowing a single.

“I was feeling really comfortable out there with my delivery and I am making pitches,” said deGrom. “I heard somebody (in the stands) yell out about (the perfect game) as I was coming off the field. I was trying not to think about that and just go out there and execute my game.”

During his past three starts, deGrom has given up only two runs in 23 innings. He has struck out 28 batters in this span without issuing a walk.

This great stretch has propelled deGrom towards the top of the league in many pitching categories.

He ranks inside the top ten in the National League in ERA, WHIP and Strikeouts. His 5.46 strikeout to walk ratio is 5th in the league, which ranks right above Clayton Kershaw, Johnny Cueto and Gerrit Cole.
