Yet another scintillating performance from Jacob deGrom on Tuesday night as the Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 5-3 at Camden Yards.

Continuing to make his case for the Cy Young Award, deGrom overpowered a strong Baltimore offense allowing just one run on five hits while walking one and striking out six in 7 2/3 innings pitched.

He had everything working perfectly, using his explosive fastball and biting breaking pitches to great effect to take control of the game.

“I am down in the zone,” deGrom said. “I try to get a lot of ground balls. I think that’s helped me out. I am having a little more confidence than last year in all of my pitches.”

DeGrom is now second in the major leagues with a 1.98 ERA, behind only Zack Greinke who has a 1.58 ERA for the Dodgers. Since May 16, he has a 1.44 ERA which is the lowest in MLB during that span.

“He’s one of the best in the game right now,” Terry Collins said. “I’ve talked to too many of the other managers and he’s one of the first guys they ask about. He’s very, very good.”

So how good has deGrom been when you put his season into context? Well consider that his ERA right now is the third best in a single season in franchise history behind only Dwight Gooden (1.53 in 1985) and Tom Seaver (1.76 in 1971).

The Mets have now won the last seven games that Jacob deGrom has started, and more importantly than that, last night our Cy Young candidate snapped the Mets losing streak at three and got his team back on track.

Jacob deGrom is the best pitcher in the game right now and has clearly taken his Rookie of the Year campaign to a whole new level. This kid is in Beast Mode.
