According to a report in the New York Daily News by Kristie Ackert and Christian Red, the New York Mets expect Jeurys Familia to be suspended for fewer than 30 games after he met with MLB commissioner Rob Manfred on Monday in New York City.
Furthermore, a decision on Familia’s suspension is now expected in the next 48 hours, according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman, and it looks like the Mets will finally get some closure on this.
Familia was charged with domestic assault stemming from an October incident in which he allegedly scratched his wife’s chest and bruised her cheek. Despite charges being dropped, MLB can still suspend Familia under MLB’s domestic violence policy.

Per multiple sources, Jeurys Familia left Mets camp Monday to meet with MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred in New York City. The meeting is most likely discussion a possible suspension, one that is expected in the next 48 hours per Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Sherman reports that there will be no decision on a Familia suspension today, however pretty much everybody in Mets land is bracing themselves for one. While many are using Aroldis Chapman‘s 30-game suspension last season as a reference point, it will most likely be a lesser punishment considering the original charges were much less serious than Chapman’s.
Criminal charges against the Mets closer were dropped during the offseason as he pleaded not guilty in a domestic violence case. The charges against him were dropped so his criminal record remains untarnished, however he still may face a suspension by MLB.
Familia, 27, led the league with 51 saves last season. In 77.2 innings he struck out 84 batters, posting a 2.55 ERA, 2.39 FIP, and 1.210 WHIP. He attended his first All Star game and finished 17th in MVP voting, being the only NL closer to receive any votes.
