harvey syndergaard degrom

The Mets have announced the starting pitchers for their opening series against the Braves. Noah Syndergaard will start opening day, Jacob deGrom will start the second game on April 5th, with Matt Harvey closing out the series on April 6th.

For the Braves, Julio Teheran will start opening day with Bartolo Colon and Jaime Garcia following. The Mets will not face their former ace R.A. Dickey this time around.

Considering Steven Matz‘s elbow injury, it does not come as a surprise to see him left out of the opening series. Depending on how his elbow feels during the next week, the Mets could have Robert Gsellman pitch fourth in the rotation to give Matz an extra day. If Matz’s injury persists, you can expect to see Seth Lugo or Zack Wheeler start in his place.

Syndergaard certainly earned the opening day nod with an impressive 2016, going 14-9 with a 2.60 ERA and an MLB-leading 2.29 FIP. In 183.2 innings he struck out 218 and walked 43.
