New York Mets third baseman David Wright had some very harsh words for some of his teammates who have anonymously gone on the attack against manager Terry Collins.
In an interview with Matt Ehalt of The Record, Wright was angry with those who spoke to the press this week off the record to bash the outgoing Collins.
“That just seems like a cop-out trying to point the finger for something when maybe you should be looking in the mirror,” said Wright.
“As players, it’s our job to be accountable and accountable is putting a name on a quote. For a player to not put his name on the quote and to bash Terry, who has a lot of success. …that is cowardly and lazy.”
It’s good to see Wright speaking out on this and taking a firm stand. But you know what else would be good? Hearing the team’s captain blast Fred and Jeff Wilpon for launching this smear campaign against Collins in the first place.
Wright said nothing while his teammates Daniel Murphy, Justin Turner, R.A. Dickey, Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran were all smeared and trashed by the front office, most likely on orders from the two guys at the top of the Mets hierarchy.
Let me know when David Wright addresses that.
By the way, Jacob deGrom admitted that several players have been very unhappy with Terry Collins‘ lack of communication this season.
“I have talked to him [Collins] a lot since I have been here. I like him. But apparently not everybody feels that way.”
I’m sorry, but the Mets are still the most dysfunctional team in baseball and that begins at the top. It kills me to say that because I love this team so much, but it’s so true.
