The New York Mets (69-91) lost to the Philadelphia Phillies (65-95) 6-2 on Friday night at Citizens Bank Park.
Pitching:
Matt Harvey (5-6, 6.70 ERA) got the nod for the last time in 2017. He was unable to end his season on a high note as he only lasted four innings and gave up seven hits, three walks, and four runs while striking out three.
Hansel Robles came in for the fifth and gave up two solo home runs to give the Phillies a 6-2 lead. He then stayed on for the sixth and had a 1-2-3 inning.
Kevin McGowan was called upon to pitch the seventh. He delivered a perfect inning.
Jacob Rhame also pitched a perfect frame in the eighth inning.
Offense:
Mets batters saw Ben Lively (3-7 4.35 ERA) for the third time this season. They were limited to nine hits, seven walks, and three runs across 13 1/3 innings in his last two starts combined.
They didn’t fare much better this time around as they only mustered six hits and two runs.
Jose Reyes began the scoring as he hit a solo home run to right center field in the first inning.
Dominic Smith also hit a solo shot, his ninth in the majors and 25th overall this year. His came on a fly ball to center field in the fifth inning.
Nori Aoki, Asdrubal Cabrera and Juan Lagares each had two hits on the night.
On Deck:
The Mets play the second game of this series on Saturday. Seth Lugo (7-5, 4.72 ERA) will have his start moved up a day early in place of Jacob deGrom (15-10, 3.53 ERA) who has gastroenteritis. He will be opposed by Henderson Alvarez (0-1, 3.60 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
