According to the Associated Press, the Angels have acquired Dan Haren from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Joe Saunders, Patrick Corbin, Rafael Rodriguez, and a player to be named later.

The player to be named later is a top prospect, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.

Haren, 7-8 with a 4.60 ERA in 21 starts this year, was one of the major pitching targets among contenders before the July 31 deadline for non-waiver trades. He won at least 14 games and pitched more than 200 innings in each of the previous five seasons with Oakland and Arizona, topping out at 16-8 with a 3.33 ERA in 2008

So much for some of the stories that ran yesterday that said the Mets were poised to swoop in and land the righthander.

On a day when the Mets’ best righthander, R.A. Dickey came out of the game with a groin or knee injury, the Mets could find themselves short another starter with no replacement in sight.

Yesterday, Oliver Perez, in only his second appearance allowed a walk-off homerun in a depressing Mets loss. He may be tabbed to replace Dickey if the knuckle-baller ends up on the DL. Hopefully, Dickey is just day to day.
