Curtis Granderson came up in the bottom of the eighth inning of a tie game and hit the game-winning blast for the 300th home run of his career. The homer gave the New York Mets a 5-4 lead in an eventual 9-4 win over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night.

Granderson becomes one of nine active players that have 300 or more home runs. He is two stolen bases away from 150 in his career and the only active major leaguer with 300 home runs and 150 steals is former Met Carlos Beltran.

“It was really cool to, one, be in a situation to give our team an opportunity to win. Got to give credit to all of the coaches I’ve had — [Mets hitting coach] Kevin Long” Granderson said after the game.

Of his 83 career home runs as a Met, 43 of Granderson’s home runs have given the Mets the lead or tied the game (36 go-ahead home runs and seven game-tying home runs).

Since May 15, Granderson is batting .325/.444/.613 with 12 extra-base hits (six doubles, one triple, five home runs) and 12 RBI in 27 games.
