Granderson Cespedes

Curtis Granderson continued his impressive second half performance during yesterday’s exciting 5-2 victory of the Nationals. Granderson’s two run shot against Jordan Zimmermann jump started the Mets’ lineup and gave New York an early 2-1 lead.

Granderson has now reached base in 17 consecutive games, which is tied for the longest active steak in the National League with Dexter Fowler. He’s batting .300 with four home runs and nine RBI in this stretch, and he has an OPS well above .900 since the All-Star Break.

Due to this hot streak, Granderson ranks inside the top ten among MLB right fielders in several key categories. Coming into yesterday’s game he was ninth in home runs, tenth in slugging percentage and sixth in runs scored. Granderson has also come through in the clutch this year as eight of his 17 home runs have given the Mets the lead.

With his combination of power, speed and defense, he’s one of the most valuable and underrated right fielders in baseball. According to FanGraphs, he’s top five in the Majors in Wins Above Replacement at his position.

While he may not be a typical leadoff hitter, he’s been doing a tremendous job at the top of the order and he is one of the main reasons why the Mets have fought their way back to first place.
