After missing the entire 2013 season following multiple knee surgeries, soon-to-be free agent Corey Hart told Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, that he’ll take less money to re-sign with the Brewers.
I told them I would be very generous to stay here. I wouldn’t sit there and ask for anything outlandish. I’d definitely take a discount to stay here because I think I owe it to them to stay here and be a cheaper player. Nobody wants to play for free but I basically sat there and watched all season. I owe it to them and the fans to come back at a cheaper price.
Well there’s something you don’t hear everyday, good for him…
Hart, 31, is in the final year of a three-year, $26.5 million contract and his name has frequently popped up as a potential target for the Mets this offseason.
I’ve mentioned Hart a few times in the last few weeks and thought he could be a solid low risk/high reward type signing for the Mets.
Over his previous three seasons, the righthanded slugger has hit .280 with an .857 OPS and has averaged 30 homers, while playing mostly right field and first base. During that span he’s produced a 9.5 bWAR and 94 RAR.
He certainly could provide some of the thump the Mets are lacking in their lineup.
