The New York Mets lost a close one as the San Francisco Giants beat them 2-1 today at Cit Field.

Jon Niese started for the Mets and held the Giants to just two runs in seven innings, but his mound opponent Madison Bumgarner outdueled him and limited the Amazins to just a run over his seven innings of work. Niese scattered seven hits and two walks while striking out four. Since returning from the disabled list last month, Niese is 4-2 with a 3.06 ERA.

The Mets’ lone run came on Daniel Murphy‘s RBI single in the fourth inning to score Josh Satin who had doubled ahead of him. That was it. The Mets struck out 12 times in the game, 10 of them against Bumgarner.
