New York Mets outfielder Michael Conforto has progressed to the next step in his recovery with soft toss for the first time since his shoulder surgery.

Conforto, turned 25 today, did 25 front tosses and 15 swings off a tee as well. Conforto previously said that he has no intentions to rush a return to the team and said that May 1 is his target date. As GM Sandy Alderson intimated earlier in the offseason.

Michael broke out in a big way in 2017 before his injury, slashing .279/.384/.555 with 27 home runs and 68 RBIs, posting a 146 wRC+ and 4.4 fWAR.

The Mets also announced that young first baseman Dominic Smith jogged today for the first time since straining his quad earlier during spring training. Smith is 1 for 1 with two runs scored this spring as he battles veteran first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.
