yoenis cespedes

The New York Mets will soon be back to full strength as Terry Collins told reporters that Yoenis Cespedes, Asdrubal Cabrera and Justin Ruggiano will all be in San Francisco on Thursday when the Mets begin a four-game series against the Giants.

While Cabrera will be activated on Thursday, Cespedes is not eligible to be activated until the next day on Friday.

The question is who will the Mets option to make room for all three players?

The Mets will have to part with one reliever and Gabriel Ynoa, Seth Lugo and Josh Edgin are all possibilities.

Cutting two position players seems trickier. Will they option T.J. Rivera who has done nothing but hit since being promoted? Ty Kelly seems like a logical choice to go.

Previous Report – Aug 15

Yoenis Cespedes hit third as the designated hitter tonight for the St. Lucie Mets in his first rehab game. He went 0 for 3 with an RBI ground out. He struck out in his first at bat, lined out to center in his second before knocking in a run with a ground ball in his third.

As you can tell from this video, he ran hard down to first base without any noticeable limp. Cespedes is expected to play the outfield on Tuesday as Asdrubal Cabrera begins his rehab assignment in the DH slot for St. Lucie.

Original Report: Aug 13

According to a source with direct knowledge, Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is scheduled to begin his rehab assignment on Monday with the St. Lucie Mets as the designated hitter.

The plan is for him to then play the next two days in the outfield before travelling to San Francisco on Thursday and being activated by the Mets on Friday which is the first day he’s eligible to return.

Cespedes has been swinging a bat since Tuesday and taking batting practice at the team’s complex in Port St. Lucie. Today and tomorrow he will be running sprints and rounding the bases. Cespedes was placed on the disabled list after re-aggravating his right quad injury in a loss to the Yankees.

The Mets will be happy to have his bat back in the lineup next weekend. Cespedes was batting .292 with 18 doubles, 22 homers and 59 RBIs this season for the Mets.
