jose reyes

Since his return from the disabled list, Jose Reyes has been a positive for the Mets in the leadoff spot. Displacing Curtis Granderson, Reyes has given them more of a true catalyst in a lineup that desperately needed one.

Reyes returned on August 13 and since doing so has hit to a .286/.375/.381 slash line. During this same time he has helped to manufacture four runs in the five games he has played as well as accumulated three RBI of his own. Jose has also stolen one base since his return.

As he has gotten on base, he has wreaked havoc on the base paths with his speed. Easily going first to third on hits and giving the Mets opportunities to manufacture runs. With the looming return of Yoenis Cespedes and Reyes getting hot at the right time, it could lead to some big offensive opportunities that they are in desperate need for.

Reyes, 33, has played 21 games with the Mets since his return to the team who signed him as a 16-year-old in 1999. His overall numbers thus far have produced a .250/.302/.466 slash line. He he hit three homers to go along with 11 RBI and has helped to manufacture 11 runs for the team. He has also stolen four bases and has been caught twice.

Jose has proven to be some of the spark this team was missing. If he can continue to play as he is, it will only give this offense more and more opportunities to score some runs. Something they will need to do plenty of as they reach the most crucial point in their season, heading into San Francisco and St. Louis.
