In a historic night for the New York Mets, they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 14-4 on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park.
Offense
The Mets crushed seven home runs among their 20 hits, 14 of them for extra-bases.
Yoenis Cespedes led the offensive barrage, going 4-for-6 with three home runs and five RBI. He becomes the first Mets player to hit three homers in a game two times. He last did it on Aug. 21, 2015 against the Rockies in Colorado.
Lucas Duda also had a big night, entering his final at-bat needing only a triple to hit for the cycle. But instead he parked a no-doubter deep into the Philadelphia night.
Also homering in the game were Asdrubal Cabrera and Travis d’Arnaud, the first long ball of the season for both of them. Cabrera has been red hot for the Mets and finished went 4-for-6 with two RBIs tonight. D’Arnaud also had a good night, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Jose Reyes was bounced from the leadoff spot and went 1-for-5 at the plate.
It was an amazing night for the Mets who continue to be explosive at Citizens Bank Park. They have now won 15 of their last 17 series against the Phillies, and have hit 46 home runs in their last 21 games at Citizens Bank Park, including a club-record eight times on Aug. 24, 2015.
Pitching
Matt Harvey was the benefactor of all this offense and he allowed just two runs on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. He left the game with a tight left hamstring after covering first base on a groundout by Michael Saunders. But after the game both he and manager Terry Collins said it was just a cramp and that he’ll make his next start.
Hansel Robles took over and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out two. Josh Edgin got tagged for two runs in the eighth inning, while Paul Sewald pitched a scoreless ninth.
