The New York Mets have had seen many players leave the organization either through free agency or trade and many went on to perform well in other organizations. Contradictory to what many say, players have also left the organization and performed poorly. In that spirit, let’s breakdown five players the Mets should have held on to and five they should have let go. Players in this exercise...
The Mets have hired Derek Falvey in the front office as a senior advisor to president of baseball operations David Stearns. (They also promoted Kris Gross to the role of assistant general manager.) So who is he, what is was his style as president of baseball operations of the Twins, and what does a senior advisor do? What Does a Senior Advisor Do? A senior advisor is a high-level in-house...
The Mets have two clear candidates for rookie of the year in Carson Benge and Nolan McLean. As much as I would love to say that the Mets will dominate all the placings in the ROTY ballot, JJ Wetherholt, Sal Stewart and TJ Rumfield will be their true competition. I will start by breaking down Benge and McLean and then give flowers to the other Mets rookies. The Mets Rookie of the Year Contenders...
The 2026 MLB season ended fittingly for the New York Mets. In Washington for the final series, the Mets dropped two out of three to the Nationals. Consequently, the Mets finished with a 74-88 record, last place in the NL East. It is New York’s first time finishing in the bottom of the division since 2003. The team’s 74 wins are the franchise’s lowest since 2017. While there...
The New York Mets are looking to finish the 2026 season with a flourish. In the penultimate series of the year, the Mets took two out of three from a Texas Rangers team fighting for their playoff lives. There were yet more signs of encouragement for next year. Furthermore, it also proved to be a significant few days off the field too. The Mets gave Andy Green the manager’s job on a...
Last November, the Mets traded Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers for Marcus Semien. When you frame the trade like that it is easy to look at Semien’s .624 OPS and Nimmo’s .731 OPS and think it is a trade the Mets should regret, but it was never truly a one-for-one trade in that sense. Semien was never acquired with the expectation that he would replicate Nimmo’s offense. He was the best return...
We all thought that we’d see a long process of the Mets searching for a manager. But much to our surprise, that’s not the case. By now you’ve heard the news that Andy Green will be taking over as the full-time manager, signing a three-year extension. This wasn’t expected, as when he took over the interim role, he did so expecting to return to the front office after the...
The Mets welcome change. Especially to hitting mechanics. The evidence is scattered throughout their farm system. Across the organization, swing tweaks pop up seemingly weekly, tinkering is encouraged, and bat path adjustments are as common as a Jefry Yan strikeout celly. It’s all part of the process to develop the Mets’ next crop of young offensive stars, one of whom is already...
The New York Mets signed off at Citi Field for 2026 in typically frustrating fashion. In what was the final home series of the year, the Mets split with the Phillies, with both teams winning two games apiece. Some inconsistent pitching didn’t help. As a result, the Mets finished the 2026 season 36-45 at home, which sums up just how disappointing this season has been. The team also bid an...
The New York Mets were no match for Pete Alonso and the Baltimore Orioles this week. In a series dominated and overshadowed by Alonso’s homecoming, the Mets were swept by the O’s. As a result, they have now lost four straight. It was a weird week with fans making their love for Alonso and their unhappiness at the front office both perfectly known. However, the bottom line is that the...
Obscured by the the ongoing circus that is Pete Alonso’s return to Flushing, Nate Lavender put together another flawless appearance striking four of the five batters he faced. While there are many things the front office got wrong this season, one they nailed was the bullpen. Even after trading everyone not named Devin Williams at the deadline, the Mets have continued to get quality from a...
