The Mets have received more good news on the status of both Carlos Carrasco and Noah Syndergaard in their ongoing rehab from injuries. As scheduled, both starting pitchers threw simulated games at the teams facility in Port St Lucie on Tuesday morning.

Carrasco threw six innings, hitting up to 96 MPH with his fastball, showed some good late life on his stuff, and an anonymous Mets’ minor leaguer told MMO’s Michael Mayer that his slider was “unhittable.”

Mets manager Luis Rojas told reporters pregame on Monday evening that the team will reevaluate Carrasco’s next step after his six innings of work this morning. The veteran right-hander will either make one more rehab start for a minor league affiliate, or join the big league rotation.

This of course comes just one day after Joey Lucchesi struggled, and was roughed up a bit in a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. The left-hander has posted a 10.13 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over just 10 innings pitched, and has failed to reach the fourth inning yet in an outing.

Syndergaard, on the other hand, threw two innings this morning as he remains on pace for his expected mid-June return. The plan is for the Mets to stretch the hard-throwing righty out through the month of May, and he will likely join an affiliate soon for a rehab assignment.
