Former Mets pitcher Jeremy Hefner has signed a minor league deal with the St. Louis Cardinals. Hefner has not seen major league action since 2013 due to two Tommy John surgeries.
Hefner, 29, made 36 starts in 2012 and 2013 for the Mets, going 8-15 with a 4.65 ERA. In 224.1 innings he struck out 161 and walked 55, pitching to a 1.324 WHIP. He made one appearance in the Dominican Winter League this year, throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings and allowing one hit.
