According to a report from Marc Carig of Newsday, New York Mets infielder Asdrubal Cabrera has reversed course and is now willing to play third base.

This news comes a few days after multiple outlets reported that the Boston Red Sox have scouted and have interest in Cabrera, as well as Wilmer Flores and T.J. Rivera.

Cabrera, 31, has already switched positions once this year when he moved over to second base to accommodate fellow veteran Jose Reyes.

Third base always made the most sense for Cabrera because of his complete lack of range at shortstop and now we’ve even seen be barely passable at second (-6 DRS in only 154 innings).

Cabrera is hitting .254/.338/.405 with nine home runs and 29 RBI this season after posting a career best .810 OPS in 2016 with the Mets.

The other side of Cabrera potentially slide over to third is the Mets hope to have second baseman Neil Walker back from his injury on Monday against the San Diego Padres.

The Mets have an option of Cabrera for the 2018 at $8.5 million or they can pay him a $2 million buyout.
